Lyle (35) had Ibrox stunned when he put Queen of the South ahead shortly before half time, left with only Foderingham to beat from six-yards he did just that.
Within 10-minutes of the second half restarting Holt (53) had Rangers level though, finishing into the corner from a Tavernier pass with Thomson, who was in fine form in the Queen of the South goal, finally beaten.
A chance to win it came when Waghorn had a penalty, saved by Queen of the South ‘keeper Thomson in the dying minutes but Waghorn (90) made up for this shortly after as he headed in a late, late winner.
