With Rangers hosting Ayr United at Ibrox yesterday evening for the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals, eager eyes were on the starting lineup and the makeup of the substitutes bench with fans hoping to see a number of players given a shot as manager Steven Gerrard freshened things up.

Although we saw the likes of Wes Foderingham, Joe Worrall, Graham Dorrans and Glenn Middleton, one man’s omission certainly set tongues wagging on social media when the team was released.

Roma loanee Umar Sadiq remained missing and didn’t even feature on the bench.

With the 21-year-old not really impressing in the second string earlier in the week as we faced Motherwell at the training ground, a number of fans think his time is already up.

The striker hasn’t featured for Gerrard since August and even then he only made three substitute appearances and seems to have quickly fallen down the pecking order with the arrival of Kyle Lafferty, so we’ll have to see if he can make a greater impression in the coming weeks and get himself going.
