Rangers captain James Tavernier has expressed his delight as his team were crowned as champions of Scotland, this afternoon.

Tavernier, 29, now in his sixth season at Ibrox has been through a lot in his time in Glasgow since he was brought to the club by Mark Warburton back in 2015.

He has been there for the climb through the Scottish Championship, the disappointment of the Scottish Cup Final against Hibs, the struggle in the face of Brendan Rodgers Celtic reign and more.

Tav has also been a shining light in the team over the last couple of seasons, he has flourished since Steven Gerrard handed him the captain’s armband, lifting his game to a new level.

The Europa League campaigns have been great for him and other players, raising the bar and quality of performance.

Unlucky to be injured at present, from the Royal Antwerp away tie, the skipper will be very eager to get back into contention for a place in the team within a few weeks.

He told Rangers TV this afternoon (above) of his delight as the players celebrated at their Auchenhowie training base:

“There aren’t enough words to describe it really.”

“I’m obviously delighted for the club, the fans, the players. Especially the fans, they’ve been in the dumps for a long time.”

“I’ve experienced such a rollercoaster since I came in.”

“To do it this year, with everything surrounding this season, it is monumental.”

“Not just to the boys who have come in this season, there are others who have contributed and the fans have been with us from day one as well.”

“This is for them and everyone who has been involved.”

“It’s a terrific day day for everyone at the club and the fans”

He was asked about the focus and determination from his teammates this season, Tavernier responded:

“Since the gaffer came in, we’ve been working really hard. We’ve shown the required consistency this season – We’ve been absolutely terrific.”

Pride

The Englishman spoke on his teammates before reflecting on his own Rangers journey – “Im just so proud of them – it’s amazing to see.”

“Im still absorbing it.”

“You know, all the crticism I’ve received, the comments from some pundits but people have stuck by me, it has really helped us push on.”

“I know where this club wants to be.”

“When I first came in, I wanted to put the club where it belonged.”

“It has took longer than expected but I couldn’t have asked for a better season from the boys and what we have done.”

“We’ve finally brought the league flag home to the club and it’s such an amazing feeling!”

The skipper has walked the walk with the club and fans, tight back to the top.

Enjoy it and savour every moment.
