SPFL madness as VAR proposed to start half way through next season

An absurd proposal means that the Scottish Premiership could see the introduction of VAR next season but not until the half way stage.

Sporting integrity, anyone?

Yes, that is right. If the motion is carried, then the implementation will happen after the World Cup in Qatar, in December later this year.

Also to muddy the waters, Championship, League 1 and 2 clubs will have a casting vote on whether or not VAR will be approved even though it would just be used in the Scottish top flight.

No wonder the reputation of the SPFL is as it is – they just don’t make it easy for themselves, the clubs (individually) and most of all, the supporters who are crucial stakeholder but often, an afterthought.

As can be viewed above from the press release, the clubs will be made aware of the full costings as well as all of the other relevat information, but it seems flawed logic to have a 75% approval requirement for VAR when it only relates to 12 of them – the Premiership.

The voting will take place two weeks tomorrow, on 19th April.
