Kevin Thomson is on Kelty Hearts shortlist to become their next manager.

That is according to the Scottish Sun who claim the Rangers coach is in the running to replace his old teammate, Barry Ferguson – who is the new boss at League 1 Alloa.

It has been reported that the Fife club are set to open talks with Thomson, who could be tempted to take his first steps into senior management.

With the club about to embark on their maiden season in the SPFL and senior football in general, it does present an intriguing opportunity.

That will need to be weighed up against the current pathway within the Auchenhowie set-up and his own ambitions.

The Sun report stated:

‘Kelty, who beat Brechin in the play-off final on Sunday, are in the hunt for a boss after Barry Ferguson resigned on Monday.’

‘But Ferguson’s ex-Gers team-mate Thomson might take some persuading to leave his current post at Ibrox.’

‘The 36-year-old works full-time as Rangers ‘B’ Team manager and is highly regarded by the Scottish champions.’

‘And with the Ibrox youngsters taking part in next season’s Lowland League it is a huge chance for Thomson to gain some valuable coaching experience.’

It is encouraging that Thomson is said to be in the running for jobs like this one at Kelty Hearts, but the Lowland league involvement next season for Rangers, changes the dynamic.
