Sky Sports News have claimed that Rangers are speaking to other managerial candidates suggesting that the approach for Michael Beale is not as cut as dried as anticipated.

As well as the line that no official approach has made made toward QPR from the Ibrox hierarchy, it leaves the door open for something of an unexpected development following recent reports.

It is widely understood that Michael Beale is in the box seat, effectively a preferred candidate at this stage but until the official permission comes through, that could change.

42-year old Beale will have a lot to weigh up in terms of his current position, standing as a coach and the risk/reward that would be very real in deciding if he wants to make the return to Ibrox or not. He is also on record previously on his desire to take over one day and his belief that “no one turns down Glasgow Rangers.”

However, Sky have briefed that we aren’t quite at the finish line yet so it will be interesting to witness what transpires over the next 24 hours or so.

The vast majority of the Rangers squad will be back at work at Auchenhowie over the weekend, following permitted leave, getting ready to return to play with the club wanting a new manager in place immediately. That is firmly the intention so don’t expect the appointment process to be a long drawn out saga meaning Friday or Saturday should be d-day.

The expectation is building, the anticipation is already palpable. The next chapter for Rangers will very soon be unveiled.
