With Danny Ings expected to leave Liverpool this summer, Rangers have been linked with a move for player, as reported by The Scotsman.

Ings has had serious problems with injuries at Anfield since joining after a successful Burnley spell, making just 25 appearances and scoring four goals.

However, he has the kind of quality that would be a huge benefit to Steven Gerrard as they attempt to wrestle control of the Scottish Premiership away from Celtic.

He’s a proven goalscorer at English Championship and Premier League level, scoring 43 goals for Burnley in his time at Turf Moor. He also provides a serious physical threat, which could be dynamite up against Scottish defences.

The BBC previously reported last month that he was set to leave Liverpool this summer despite Jurgen Klopp wanting him to stay. Perhaps crucially though, the report stated that Liverpool would not stand in his way with a prohibitive transfer fee.

He is currently rated as worth £7.2m by Transfermarkt.

While that fee is likely beyond what Rangers could offer, perhaps convincing the player his future lies in Glasgow with Gerrard could bring that kind of spend down, or even enable an audacious loan move for the striker.

With not much going on in attack beyond Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox, reinforcements are needed and Ings could be the perfect option if they can somehow get a deal done.
