We’ve already seen one £15million striker being linked with a move to Rangers which didn’t go down too well, but it’s safe to say that the latest rumour is likely to cause a lot more excitement.

Colombian international Santos Borre is out of contract in just a matter of days and the 25-year old striker is said to be at the top of a list of potential targets for Ross Wilson with a report claiming that there is “concrete” interest in bringing him to Scotland to join his countryman Alfredo Morelos.

According to Football Insider, we face stiff competition for the River Plate forward who scored 22 goals in 42 appearances last season with eight in 17 already this term, his time at Atletico Madrid didn’t quite go to plan but his reputation remains high given his proven track record of finding the back of the net.

Although our director of football isn’t actively looking for reinforcements to our front line, being able to secure a player of Borre’s ability would be a huge coup, especially with Champions League qualifiers on the horizon and Kemar Roofe being suspended.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

Valued at £15m, it would be an opportunity to get a replacement in for Morelos without breaking the bank, yes, he would be on decent wages but nothing that his countryman isn’t already on – it would be the perfect example of how our transfer cycle and model should work, buying low, selling high, then replacing without suffering a drop in quality or investing a significant transfer fee.

We won’t be the only ones after him, let’s just hope El Bufalo can put a word in for us.
