The short term future of Kemar Roofe at Rangers has come into question with increasing speculation on interest from EFL clubs.c

It has been said that Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County are leading the chase for the striker who is currently out of action due to another minor injury that has prevented the Jamaica international from first team involvement prior to the Portugal training camp.

The frustrating thing for the player as well as Rangers is that Roofe’s ability is beyond question, as he has proven during his time in Scotland but his dependability and condition is not what it needs to be for a senior player at Ibrox. That has led to speculation that a move could be sanctioned, which would result in another striking option being pursued by Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Excitement has spread rapidly among Wednesday fans online at the though of Roofe leading the line for them in League 1 – a level that he should be far too strong for.

If there is a deal to be done, they will face competition, as previously reported here on Vital Rangers.

The latest report from the Sheffield Star included:

“Sheffield Wednesday are hoping to beat new League One rivals Derby County to the signing of Rangers forward Kemar Roofe.”

“Journalist Alan Nixon has reported Owls boss Darren Moore is hoping to secure the former Leeds United and Anderlecht star and sees Roofe as ‘the missing link’ in his forward line.”

“A number of clubs across the EFL are said to be keen to take the Jamaica international on a season-long loan, with Derby reportedly submitting an offer as they look to secure an immediate return to the Championship.”

Previous rumours and links without foundation have quickly been shot down by sources close to Rangers so the start of the new week should give us that telling indication on this story regarding Kemar Roofe.
