There should be something of a siege mentality building around the Rangers squad right now.

With injuries and other reasons rendering key players unavailable for an important Europa League game against Sparta Prague tonight, it will be a tough shift, particularly in defence.

Then there is an element of spice added to tonight’s encounter given the incidents last season against Slavia Prague and the ugly fallout which followed.

Although Steven Gerrard played down any concerns ahead of the trip, the team were barely off the plane in the Czech capital before verbals were aimed at Kemar Roofe.

‘Butchers’

The manager as well as Rangers security staff will be primed to protect the players, but this unneccessary incident should add more fire to the belly.

What better way to respond than by getting the victory and sending Rangers toward the top of Group A.

If selected to start, that man Roofe will be determined to have his own say in the best possible way by making his mark on the pitch.

It remains to be seen what will unfold around the stadium tonight with an effective crowd ban meaning that only 1000 local children are set to be in attendance.

This is due to separate incidents of racist chanting at previous Sparta Prague games in Europe.
