Liverpool and Scotland’s Andy Robertson could be thrust into action at Ibrox as he steps up his recovery from injury.

The former Queen’s Park, Dundee United and Hull City player has not featured for Jurgen Klopp’s side since the defeat away to Napoli but his return is drawing closer.

The Reds will be without Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip for the game against Rangers with the possibility of only Virgil van Dijk featuring in the starting line-up in terms of the first choice four in defence. However, that could change if Robertson is deemed ready.

The Liverpool Echo stated the following on his latest involvement with the squad prior to the journey to Glasgow:

“Having taken part in training on Monday, Andy Robertson was again involved in Tuesday’s session and looks set to return for the trip to his homeland. Whether the Scotland captain is actually fit to start against Rangers however, having not played since the September loss in Napoli, only time will tell.”

Risk

Klopp will know just what condition his player is in. Whilst this Champions League game is important in terms of contributing to progress from Group A, further and more pressing matters lie ahead in the Premier League. The German coach will want his left-back for the majority of games through to the World Cup break, rather than rushing.

On the other hand, he is going through the gears in training and appears set to at least be involved in the squad tomorrow night. With his familiarity with Glasgow and Celtic leanings, Robertson is likely itching to take part.

A further update is likely from Jurgen Klopp’s press conference tonight at Ibrox.
