As was expected, Liverpool duo Luis Diaz and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been all but ruled out of contention to face Rangers on Wednesday night.

Injuries picked up in the defeat to Arsenal on Sunday have meant that they wont be available to Jurgen Klopp for immediate games on the horizon with the Colombian international striker said to be in danger of not playing again this year.

Following the game at the Emirates Stadium, the early indications were that some injury damage had been sustained and these fears have now been realised.

Klopp stated post-match on Sunday:

“Lucho we had to change before half-time, something with the knee. Not good. He will have a scan and we will know more, I have no idea about the extent.”

“On top of that, Trent was bad as well with the ankle, a twisted ankle. Not good. Trent in seven years never went off if he could have played on, he felt too much pain and there was slight swelling immediately. So he will have a scan.”

Options

Joe Gomez is likely to continue to deputise for TAA at right-back with other possibilities in attack including the set-up in the call as to how Diaz will be replaced.

Liverpool are now 14 points behind Mikel Arteta’s table topping Gunners with some relative pressure on Klopp to arrest the stuttering form. Following the game in Glasgow which is important in Champions League terms, the Reds host Manchester City then West Ham in what will be a formidable domestic double.

There is a chance that another couple of changes will be made for the game at Ibrox but that will depend on the approach chosen by Klopp in navigating the current uncharted choppy waters.
