The Scottish FA are not thinking of introducing foreign referees to the Scottish Premiership, as reported by Sky Sports.

Outlets such as The Daily Record had previously reported that the prospect of bringing in officials from other countries was on the table as part of widespread and radical changes to the current disciplinary process in Scottish football.

It was said that Celtic were leading the way in trying to introduce foreign referees, but that other clubs were also coming round to the idea.

The Scottish FA though have been quick to play down that prospect, with a source telling Sky Sports that Celtic’s plan is not viable and was simply a ‘throwaway comment’.

Thankfully the broadcaster does report that the changes Rangers seek, chiefly to do with the compliance process that hands out retrospective punishment, will be be examined.

They say that there is a strong feeling among clubs that problems with the system do need to be addressed.

It’s fantastic news for the Gers, who have led the way in recent weeks in terms putting pressure on the SFA to make changes.

Now that action is being taken, we can only hope it does not take too long and the appropriate changes can be made in time for the new season.
