Report – Serie A linked Ger commits for another season in huge Gerrard bonus

|

According to an article in The Scottish Sun, Borna Barisic is set to stay at Ibrox despite a series of high profile clubs being rumoured to be interested in the Croatian international.

The story originates from the left-back’s agent who had claimed earlier in the season that it was likely that this would be Barisic’s last in the famous Light Blue jersey.

Just a few weeks ago Ives Cakarun was adamant that his client wouldn’t be around come the 2020/21 season despite signing a new contract until 2024 when he said:

“Rangers won’t be able to keep Borna after the season he’s had, even though he’s just signed a new contract.”

“There was interest in him during the winter transfer window – the strongest came from Napoli, but Rangers turned down all offers because they wanted to keep one of their best players.”

“Napoli? Borna is concentrated only on the path with Rangers until next summer.”

Replacing a defender with 14 assists, added to the dead-ball threat that Barisic carries, would be one of the last things that Rangers would want to do when the transfer window eventually opens so this will be music to Ross Wilson’s ears as the man responsible for identifying potential talent.

Who is Rangers top league goalscorer?

As Gers fans wait for clarity on when and how this season will finish before thinking about building towards next year, having one of the more consistent performers around for one more season at least will allow Steven Gerrard to focus his attentions elsewhere as he looks to bring the silverware so desperately sought after back to the Ibrox trophy room.
