Report – Championship club to make seven figure bid for Rangers forward

|

According to transfer speculation in The Daily Mail, Jordan Jones, is the subject of a potential £1m bid by Championship side, Stoke City.

Jones – who arrived on a Bosman deal from Kilmarnock in the summer of 2019 – has missed the majority of the season after he suffered a self-inflicted knee injury against Celtic in the first Old Firm derby of the year in September.

It is on the continent that Jones has been most impressive for the Light Blues with a stunning display against Midtjylland and the all important assist for Alfredo Morelos in injury time at Ibrox to see Rangers qualify for the group stages of the Europa League for the second season running.

Jones has returned to full training and was starter against Stranraer in the Scottish Cup in the first game back after the winter break but didn’t look fully up to match sharpness, with Joe Aribo and Ryan Kent nailing down the attacking midfield roles behind Morelos, Jones will need to improve in his next outings if he is to remain part of Steven Gerrard’s plans.

Rangers may feel that a £1m profit on a squad player is too good to turn down, however, with Jamie Murphy now on loan at Burton Albion, Glen Middleton likely to follow him and with Sheyi Ojo and Brandon Barker struggling for form, Gers fans may want a replacement in before the Northern Irishman is allowed to join his former international manager.

Should Rangers sell Jordan Jones?

The 25-year-old – with 2 assists in 11 appearances – offers a different style to Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo and remains a useful option either from the start or off the bench, depending on the opposition, Gerrard and Ross Wilson will be weighing up whether or not they can replace or improve on Jones in this window without breaking the bank and if Stoke can make it too good an offer to turn down.
