Rangers third-choice keeper, Andy Firth, has signed a contract extension which sees him stay at the club into the summer of 2021 as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The news comes after Allan McGregor was announced as being around for another season in December with his form showing no signs of dropping off as the Light Blues mount an impressive title challenge, his vital penalty save in the 2-1 win over Celtic at Parkhead going a long way in ensuring the points returned to Ibrox.

Firth signed for Rangers in 2018 as back-up to McGregor and Wes Foderingham – who looks to be on his way out of the club – ideally, the Gers would like to bring in some money for the stopper with Middlesbrough rumoured to be interested but it now looks as though a summer departure is more likely.

Who will be Rangers back-up keeper next season?

These fans took to Twitter at the announcement of Firth’s new deal and despite only ever making one competitive appearance for Rangers, he is hugely popular amongst the Ibrox faithful, the third choice keeper is never an easy position to fill but there certainly won’t be many more popular than the former Liverpool academy graduate.

Firth has made the most of every second at the club since he signed, appreciating the quality of the players in front of him and the job that he has to do, it maybe isn’t a glamorous position but it’s one that he performs to perfection.
