“Something Bubbling Away…An Opportunity” – Gerrard Happy To Play Transfer Hardball So Rangers Win – Confirmed

|

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that in some ways the club have let Queen of the South down after we changed our mind on youngster Robby McCrorie’s season long loan, but the former Liverpool man feels that with the 21-year-old’s recent development, taking a shot at the Premiership level is an opportunity too good to miss.

Having been with Queen of the South since the summer, the young Scot has significantly impressed for them, making 24 starting appearances for them across all competitions but with Aston Villa recalling Matija Sarkic this month, they were on the lookout for a replacement, so it’s a fantastic chance for McCrorie to step up a level and test himself further.

Speaking to Sky Sports our gaffer felt that although it was a tough decision, it was simply too good an opportunity to pass up when it came to his development curve.

“There is also something bubbling away with young Robby McCrorie. There’s an opportunity for him to play in the Premiership. It’s a situation where we don’t really want to do what we have to do but we have to do it for the sake of the boy. It will be brilliant for his development to play in the Premiership. We really respect the job Queens have done and it’s not something we wanted to do by taking a ‘keeper off someone. But when the kids get the opportunity to play a league above, to better himself and the chance to play in the Premiership then it gives him a better chance of coming back here and playing for Rangers. For the kid it’s a no-brainer. Slightly awkward for us as we don’t want to let anyone down. Queen of the South probably thought they would have Robby for the full year but we have to forget about that and think what’s best for the kid himself. It’s too good an opportunity to turn down. I rate him very highly. If Robby keeps developing at the speed he is then I’ve got no doubt he can come back here and effect the two main positions here for the goalkeeping position.”

With reported interest from Hearts and Hibernian as well, Livingston should provide the better chance for game time given how they’ve relied on Sarkic so far this season, and he could potentially make his debut for them on Wednesday evening as he has been at the club today for training.

Rangers confirmed the deal earlier this evening.
