It doesn’t appear that Ayr United striker Lawrence Shankland will be moving anywhere during the January transfer window, despite speculation he could be set for a move to Rangers.

Shankland is a well known Rangers fans, attending matches as a fan in the UEFA Europa League this season.

That, coupled with his incredible form this season has led many to speculate that an Ibrox move isn’t far away.

However, the 23-year-old has distanced himself from an Ayr exit this January, instead focused on helping his club gain promotion to the Scottish top-flight for the first time in over 40 years.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said of transfer speculation this week:

To be honest I’m just putting it to the back of my mind. My main priority just now is getting fit and getting back playing.

Obviously it’s nice to have the speculation, people talking about you here and there, but it’s nothing that I get too caught up with. I just keep doing what I’m doing, working hard and the football will do the talking for me.

I’m quite laid back but obviously I know where I want to go in my career and the next step I want to take and go and improve myself and push on again. It is something I will look at eventually when the time is right and I’ll deal with it then.

Shankland is out of contract this summer and multiple clubs will undoubtedly be interested in his services so perhaps the Gers shouldn’t wait too long if the recruitment team at Ibrox are indeed keen on the player.

He’s scored a phenomenal 28 goals in 26 appearances this season, also creating another 7 assists. It follows on from a similarly prolific season in 2017/18 when his 27 goals helped Ayr gain promotion from League One to the Championship.

That kind of killer instinct in front of goal is hard to come by and he is definitely one to watch further over the next few months.
