Rangers pursuit for a new manager has accelerated over the last 24 hours with Giovanni van Bronckhorst a clear front runner for the vacant position.

It is believed that there are more candidates but, as yet, there has been nothing other than speculation, suggestions of Derek McInnes being one name on the list is wide of the mark.

The 4th Official has been at the forefront of the news since Steven Gerrard was first linked with a move to Aston Villa, leading with the compensation fee story that most of the mainstream media eventually followed and they have provided an exciting update on the current situation:

“I’ll keep this short. Ross Wilson has scheduled a meeting with Giovanni van Bronckhorst tomorrow according to a couple of sources I pinged for this story. Let me be clear, the sources are not from Rangers FC.

“As I said in my previous columns, Wilson has a list he is working from, and he intends to contact several of the shortlisted candidates over the course of the next two days.

“So let’s wait and watch before we talk about who van Bronckhorst is intending to bring in as his support staff.”

All eyes will be on the flights coming in to Scotland from Rotterdam as fans look to catch a glimpse of – potentially – their next manager, there may be other options but Van Bronckhorst is the clear front runner.

There’s a fine line between not rushing the appointment but also being aware that our next two games are Hibs in the league cup semi-final and Sparta Prague in the Europa League, win both and our season is in good shape, lose both without a manager in place and fans will be up in arms.

That the former Gers star is available to start immediately is a huge advantage, not only does he tick a lot of boxes but there would be no messy negotiations required with another club, hopefully, Ross Wilson is as impressed with him as a manager as we were with him as a player.
