A Vital Rangers exclusive has already revealed that Giovanni van Bronckhorst would jump at the chance to become Rangers manager and continue the work that Steven Gerrard started, but this isn’t the first time he has hinted at a possible return.

At the start of this season, Andrew Dickson, formerly of Rangers TV, Sky Sports and is now a freelance journalist and producer, spoke to the former Feyenoord boss when he confessed to harbouring desires of a return to Ibrox:

“I’d love to be a coach again in the future. I had drive as a player to compete in the best teams possible, it’s the same for me now as a coach. That’s why you work hard and develop yourself, to earn those opportunities.

“I want to be working in the best leagues and that is still very much a goal of mine. I’ve always said I’d love to coach all the teams I played for. I had so many good times as a player and I have good memories of being with Rangers, Arsenal and Barcelona.

“I’ve already gone back to Feyenoord after playing there. I very much enjoyed that. Now I want to enjoy my time at a club, to work hard developing players and make a team successful. That can be anywhere, but the clubs you played for always have a special appeal.”

At the risk of repeating myself, its not often a club gets the chance to appoint a manager who would be universally accepted by the fans but also tick every box needed to be a success and is available to start immediately without having to pay compensation to another club.

Van Bronckhorst has also put his money where is mouth is when he talks about development too, he’s spent a lot of time at Manchester City working with and studying how Pep Guardiola operates, not exactly a bad coach to learn from.

He’s worked under some hugely influential managers as a player in his time at Feyenoord, Rangers, Arsenal, Barcelona and with the Netherlands and has continued to learn after his days on the pitch ended, he would also clearly love to return to the Light Blues, hopefully the feeling from those making the decisions at Ibrox is mutual.
