The race to sign Rangers summer transfer target Harry Wilson looks like it will rumble on all summer after the young winger signed a new long-term deal with Liverpool and re-iterated his desire to impress Jurgen Klopp in the first team squad at Anfield, as reported by The BBC.

Wilson is a reported target for Steven Gerrard during this transfer window, with rivals Celtic also showing serious interest.

The hope from the Gers’ perspective is that Gerrard can utilise his Anfield links to convince coaches and management there that Wilson is best served with a season on loan at Ibrox.

Klopp himself meanwhile is said to prefer the player spending more time on loan at an English Championship side, if he moves anywhere this summer.

The 21-year-old had a successful spell at Hull City in the second half of last season, scoring 7 goals and creating 4 assists in 13 appearances for the Tigers.

Also on good form for the Reds in pre-season, it’s clear he is ready for more first-team football and has the ability to impress in the Scottish Premiership.

If Rangers are to land him though, it seems the club will have to remain patient. Wilson clearly wants to have a go at breaking into Klopp’s established squad and that means a decision is unlikely to be made on his future until well into August.

Ibrox is a great destination for him this season, but other priorities have clearly taken hold of the player for now.
