Rangers supporting striker Oli McBurnie has been on record this summer proclaiming his love for the club and his desire to join up with Steven Gerrard at Ibrox, but do his latest comments hint that he won’t be leaving Swansea City during this transfer window?

The Scotland international said last month he ‘would love’ to play for his boyhood heroes, one of a number of comments about the Ibrox side over the last while.

It’s led to speculation that he could be making a move to Glasgow this summer, to provide Rangers an attacking option beyond the established Alfredo Morelos.

It appears though that he is happy to stay at the Swans for the time being, after holding talks with new manager Graham Potter at the Liberty Stadium.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, McBurnie said:

I have had a chat with the new manager this week – we had a long chat about football. He is a really intelligent guy who seems to love his football. We got on really well. We spoke about his plans for me this season and for the team this season and I am looking forward to it.

I think it was definitely the right time for me to go out on loan and get some consistent first-team football under my belt. But now I am fighting to impress the new manager here and I can’t wait for the season to start.

The loan he references came at Barnsley in the second half of last season, impressing with nine goals in 17 appearances in the English Championship and demonstrating he is ready for more first-team football.

After also winning four caps for Scotland in recent internationals, the future is bright for the Rangers fan.

Should the club make a move for him this summer regardless of his comments? If there was serious interest from Steven Gerrard, surely his head would be turned enough to force through a move north?
