Rangers have followed up their initial interest in Millwall defender Jake Cooper with a £3m bid this week, according to website Football Insider.

The Gers were credited with an interest in the 23-year-old last week, with Sky Sports reporting that the Lions were not interested in selling their prize defensive asset.

However, it seems the Ibrox side are intent on doing business for the player during this transfer window and a £3m bid is sure to test their resolve and show Cooper himself that they are serious about signing him.

The defender is said by Football Insider to be wanted by a number of English sides this summer.

Having already captured the signings of Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson, it’s clear that Gerrard sees the centre of a defence as a massive priority this summer.

Bruno Alves and David Bates have left, with Fabio Cardoso set for an exit too, so players are badly needed to provide the depth and quality required to compete for major honours next term.

Cooper has made 80 career appearances in the English Championship and featured regularly for Millwall last season, helping them to an eighth-placed finish in the division.

It’s clear he has the ability to shine in the Scottish Premiership and given his young age has plenty of room for improvement and resale value too.

Will Millwall be convinced by the reported £3m offer though? And can the club afford to go higher if it’s rejected?
