Gers line up £7m package for top summer target

|

Rangers hopes of signing Joey Veerman from Heerenveen have been given a boost after it emerged that the gap between the Dutch side’s valuation and the offer from Ibrox is closing.

According to Chris Jack of the Glasgow Times – a reliable source on all things Rangers – a deal in the region of £7million is being prepared for the Netherlands Under-21 cap:

“Rangers hope to strike an agreement to sign Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman in a deal that could be worth up to £7million.

“The 22-year-old has emerged as a key target for manager Steven Gerrard this summer as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of Rangers’ Premiership title defence and upcoming Champions League qualifiers.

“A package worth up to £7million could be required to convince Heerenveen to part with Veerman as Rangers gear up for the new season that begins with the visit of Livingston to Ibrox later this month as the Premiership flag is unfurled.”

That Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson will have saved a rake of money by getting John Lundstram , Fashion Sakala and Nnamdi Ofoborh in on free transfers, there will be more flexibility in any attempts to sign Veerman.

The squad is also in a good shape so if he is the number one target, there is no desperate need to strengthen anywhere else, unless, of course, there are departures which, in that eventuality, would see additional funds coming in anyway.

There’s always one player every summer that catches the imagination, this year it’s Veerman, he is the “next level” signing that Michael Beale spoke about, let’s see how persuasive our sporting director really is.
