Rangers have completed a deal for Ianis Hagi to make his loan deal a permanent one after his former club, Genk made the announcement on their website only for them later to remove it, as reported by BBC Sport.

Jordan Campbell, The Athletic’s Rangers corespondent provided further details on the deal revealing that the fee is lower than the original £4million that was said to be the exclusive option to buy price, at £3m, plus add-ons, Ross Wilson has worked miracles.

There had been pressure on Steven Gerrard to complete the deal with Lazio and Sevilla also credited with an interest which makes the work done by Wilson to negotiate the price down even more impressive.

Former Ibrox skipper, Barry Ferguson, had claimed that he wouldn’t pay more than £2m for the playmaker despite his Europa League exploits and status as an established Romanian international, his words make have carried more weight if he hadn’t recently been telling all who would listen that Rangers should “splash the cash” on his nephew, Lewis Ferguson at Aberdeen.

Hagi’s signing could see a formation change from Gerrard with the 21-year old playing his best football in a central position for Rangers, there is no point signing such a creative player and sticking him out on the touchline.

The move is sure to trigger the “Rangers are skint” brigade who will, no doubt, forensically analyse the way in which the deal is structured as they continue to perpetuate the myth that they are heading for a repeat of 2012 – and that’s just the BBC Sportsound pundits.
