There is no getting away from the fact that Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s future is the biggest talking point for Rangers fans, the World Cup might be the biggest show on earth, but it pales into insignificance when it comes to all things Ibrox.

With every day that passes, it looks increasingly likely that the Dutchman will still be in the hot-seat when the famous trophy is held aloft in four weeks’ time, a decision that will not go down well with fans.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Dean Jones thinks that there isn’t a better time to swing the axe and make a change at the top:

“He’s walking a tightrope right now; it seems very difficult to imagine that he can survive such a tough period at Rangers.

“It feels like it might be the perfect moment to cut the rope and just let it go now.”

The atmosphere around the club is poisonous just now given how far we have fallen behind Celtic in the league and our disastrous Champions League campaign, injuries have been a factor but the argument that having more quality available in the squad would see an upturn in performances has all but evaporated after two points against St Mirren, St Johnstone and Livingston.

Unfortunately, the board just doesn’t seem to be the type to make the sort of proactive decision needed and will be blinded by the money that has been brought into the club since Van Bronckhorst arrived – the fans are obviously wary about how essential financial control is but, ultimately, silverware is all that matters, each and every season.
