Being a Rangers fan is hard work just now, the accounts look good but, other than that, there isn’t much to cheer about. An ominous dark cloud looms large above Ibrox as autumn turns to winter in what could well be the closing stages of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s time in charge.

Lack of confidence in the manager, Ross Wilson’s competence as sporting director, and a board that is increasingly ignoring the basic needs of the fans and which seems incapable of being proactive when it comes to making the big decisions are all issues that are contributing to the negativity – the performances of the players also doing little to lift spirits.

Not every Rangers player should be tarred with the same brush though with the academy’s Clinton Cameron of the 2013 age group showing the seniors how it should be done.

Clinton’s dad, Colin, has posted videos of the young Gers hopeful on Twitter before but, in his latest, it looks as though the starlet has been getting tips off Roy Makaay.

Leaving one defender for dead, Clinton cuts onto his right foot before driving through on goal. Lifting his head up, he then delicately clips an effort over the despairing keeper for a wonderfully taken goal – if only Alfredo Morelos had been showing such composure with his finishing in recent weeks.

Players in Clinton’s age group enjoyed a great opportunity in the summer, playing in the Faro International tournament with games against Porto and Real Madrid as the highlight. The sort of experience that every kid dreams about when they first start kicking a ball about with their mates.

Just 30% of academy players – on average – receive a professional contract at some point in their career, that drops to 3% for those that make it to England’s Premier League, it’s not an easy path to the top but it’s one that Clinton could well be at the beginning of making if he continues to score goals like this.
