At the last count, I reckon we have four potential names in the running to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst as Rangers manager if he goes – five if you include Steven Gerrard.

The latest of these to join the list is recent winner of Japan’s J-League, Yokohama Mariners manager, Kevin Muscat. He is Australian and he is managing in Japan but the similarities with Ange Postecoglu don’t end there.

Muscat’s style of play is equally as aggressive, and for all that it might feel like imitation if Rangers do decide to go for the former Ibrox defender, on paper, he ticks a lot of boxes.

Fans discussing the potential for Muscat to replace Gio weren’t sure about the link in terms of his ability to make the transition to such a big club, however, his former international teammate and Rangers captain, Craig Moore, laughed off any amateur analysis of his friend’s management career with a social media post:

“Does the dudes taste not like winning. Watched last couple of games hahahaha. What about 50-60 others before that?”

When asked if he would take the job he was typically Australian in his response:

“I’ve absolutely no idea mate.”

Being a cynic, there is no way that Moore hasn’t sent his mate a text to see if he would be interested, especially seeing as our former skipper is a regular visitor to the country in his scouting/agent role and pundit on Rangers TV.

Even if Van Bronckhorst remains in the Ibrox hot seat the speculation will continue until he leaves, and Muscat could well be one of the names on Ross Wilson’s list of names to replace him. It would make his job an awful lot easier if big Oz could give him the heads-up first mind.
