Rangers, even without losing the league cup final, were going to need a rebuild, the list of out of contract players could well be added to in terms of departures given how often some of them have failed to deliver when it matters the most.

We all know the positions that need to be upgraded; a new number one, a consistent centre-forward that suits our style of play and a right-sided attacker with Kemar Roofe’s skillset but who can play more than 10 minutes without getting injured, however, it is in midfield that a reset is required.

In recent weeks, Nico Raskin and Todd Cantwell have provided an energy and dynamism that we haven’t seen since Steven Davis in our title winning season and, with the Northern Ireland legend, Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack all out of contract in the summer, fresh faces will be needed.

According to the journalist who broke our interest in Antonio Colak, Rangers have cast a watchful eye over two potential options who were on opposing sides at the weekend.

Olypiacos’s In-Beom Hwang and Panathinaikos’s Dimitris Kourbelis, are said to be targets for not only us but Celtic as well with Georgios Sideridis the reporter making the claim. He also suggests that a possible striker target, Fotis Ioannidis, was being scouted at the same time – Vital Rangers will cover him separately.

The January window seemed to be a step in the right direction in that Cantwell and Raskin are clearly different to what we already have, who joins them in the summer could be the difference between winning the Scottish Premiership title back or falling even further behind at the top of the table.
