Rangers tactics, since Michael Beale arrived at Rangers, appear to be little more than getting the ball to Malik Tillman or Ryan Kent and hoping that they can do something with it so, when we can’t find them in decent positions, we get exactly what happened against Celtic on Sunday.

Tillman, at 20-years old, at least has time on his hands and has produced the numbers so far this season – nine goals and five assists – to suggest that he will be a good signing over the long term and that we will be able to make money on him despite the £5-6 million fee he will reportedly cost.

As for Kent, six goals in 83 games over the last two seasons does not make for good reading for a player who spends most of his time in the final third and around the opposition box, does he or Alfredo Morelos really justify their high earner status at the club?

According to Football Insider though, Rangers are encouraged by recent talks and now think that Kent could sign an extension as Beale looks to stamp his own authority on the squad:

“Rangers are increasingly hopeful of agreeing a new contract with Ryan Kent, sources have told Football Insider.

“The winger, 26, will be a free agent in the summer and has fended off attempts up to now from the Glasgow giants to secure him to an extension. But the contract offer from Rangers is currently the best on the table for the Liverpool academy product, and that has given his employers growing hope of keeping him.

“But it is believed that positivity around a new deal at Ibrox is growing after the latest round of contract talks between Kent and the club.

“There is a feeling growing that Kent will stay in Glasgow, although it is understood that reports of wage demands of £50,000-£60,000-a-week are wide of the mark and far too high.”

The league cup final appears to have been a real watershed for fans and there is now a growing number that are sick of the players who have continuously failed to win silverware. Eight of the 2019 league cup final squad played on Sunday with just two trophies out of a possible 15 between the players who featured on that day – are they really good enough to deliver season, after season, can we afford to pay big wages to a forward with six goals in two seasons?

We’ll soon find out.

Yes we can , because it makes sense to sign him up even to sell him and get some money if we choose to sell . He may be seen as a failure having only won the league , the cup and got to a Euro final in his time at the club but do we really trust our current recruitment team to be able replace him ? Wright , Matondo and Hagi are just three names who have ben brought into play a similar position who have contributed a lot less than Ryan .Better the devil you know than the expensive , overhyped replacement Wilson will come up with. Kent is one I would definitely keep.
