Rangers have yet to announce, or make clear, what their plans are for the number one jersey next season, current incumbent Allan McGregor’s future is still uncertain and we are being linked with goalkeepers on an almost daily basis.

The latest, according to Turkish journalist, Ekrem Konur, who has 191,000 followers on Twitter, is that we are interested in Fenerbahce’s Berke Ozer.

The 22-year old is available on a free transfer with his contract having expired at the Super Lig giants, at 6ft 4inches tall, the stopper has the presence required to be a Rangers keeper but he is still relatively inexperienced despite being capped at every age group for his country.

He has played 19 times for Fenerbahce this season but his most impressive form came last year when he as on loan in Belgium at Westerlo registering a clean sheet every three games.

Speaking to Vital Rangers, analyst Patrick Caskie, who contributes to The Rangers Review and This is Ibrox, is an avid follower of Turkish football and gave a solid review when asked about his potential:

“Very good prospect, was decent this season but was great on loan in Belgium last season.”

The previous keepers linked, like Sam Johnstone and Jack Butland, would be coming in as first choice but if we signed Ozer, you would like to think that would mean that McLaughlin is going to get his – deserved – chance to stake his claim, it makes sense, after all ,with Connor Goldson signing a new contract the defence is going to be settled, why rock the boat any further by making what could be a risk decision in one of the most important areas of the park?
