Angus Gunn has emerged as what would appear to be Ross Wilson’s top target to replace Allan McGregor between the sticks, however, a new name has emerged from right on our doorstep.

In 2020, Shamal George did what many academy graduates at big clubs do, he took a step down the leagues to get regular game time and it looks as though it might pay off for him if reports about Rangers interest in the Livingston keeper are accurate.

The 25-year old has been at David Martindale’s side since the summer but already it looks as though the former Liverpool Under-23 keeper is destined for bigger things, as revealed by journalist Pete O’Rourke:

“I can exclusively reveal that Rangers scouts have been impressed with Livingston goalkeeper Shamal George after extensively watching the 25-year-old this season.

“Livingston boss David Martindale has publicly admitted that he doesn’t expect to keep him around for much longer and the former Liverpool youngster is definitely on the radar at Ibrox.”

George has been given the seal of approval by analyst Patrick Caskie who has revealed that, statistically, the 6ft 6inch stopper is as good as we have seen in the Premiership over the last few seasons.

George will certainly have had a good upbringing at Liverpool and Michael Beale will no doubt be aware of the level of ability that he has and how he would fit into a Rangers team. Rangers fans will also get to have another look at the towering number one when the two sides face each other at Livingston on Saturday, let’s hope that he has a good game but not one that stops us making him pick the ball out the back of his own net a few times.
