A couple of weeks ago, Rangers pursuit of Nicolas Raskin didn’t look like it was going to turn into a saga, however, Standard Liege have dug there heels in and being stubborn over a fee for an immediate transfer.

Reports this week suggested that a bid of around £500,000 has been made for Raskin with the Belgians said to be looking for £2.2million and a 20% sell on clause. Journalist Sacha Tovolieri the man with the details.

Tovolieri has provided another update via Twitter and suggested that we are a lot closer to the asking price and determined to get a deal done:

”Standard makes it difficult for Nicolas Raskin as all formalities on player side already been completed last week.

“Just waiting for agreement between clubs. 2nd bid rejected yesterday but RangersFC ready to make another in the next hours.

“A race against time.

“As wrote previously, they were asking for 2,5M€ + sell on during the all transfer market this winter but now during the talks they trying to reach 2M€ bonus included+sell on.

“Feeling:They are waiting the last minute for making the deal to happen… RangersFC on it.”

For those that are apprehensive about a pre-contract deal not being announced, various reports from Belgium are adamant that one has been agreed and that the only issue remaining is agreeing on a fee.

Standard are obviously entitled to hold out for the best possible deal for them but they don’t exactly hold decent cards when it comes to negotiations, the fact that Raskin wasn’t allowed on a post World Cup training camp and hasn’t played since  says it all about their attitude towards him.

If we only get one other deal done this window, it has to be Raskin, he will be key to Michael Beale’s plans both in the short and long term – Ross Wilson is already a man under pressure but, if Todd Cantwell is our only addition, he might need to sneak into Ibrox via the back door.
