Rangers should “push hard” for midfielder with analyst seal of approval

Rangers link with Nicolas Raskin is an interesting one, a player who might not be instantly recognisable for fans unless you follow Patrick Caskie on Twitter.

Caskie – if you are a regular reader – provides scouting reports for The Rangers Review and This is Ibrox, he has also given Vital Rangers background information on John Souttar and targets like Danilho Doekhi.

A year ago, he identified Raskin as a player who we should be keeping an eye on and said at the time:

“Despite not having a contract that expires in 2022 though I thought he did, Standard Liege’s Nicolas Raskin has a deal that ends in 2023, and as such could likely be bought for a cut-price in the summer, a deal that Rangers should push hard at given the finances are feasible.”

Well, the finances are more than feasible now.

Midfield is an area where we could do with more creativity, Darius Oralu and Evander have both been linked already and with Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield and Steven Davis all out of contract next summer, we could well see a few new faces.

The squad might be bloated in the short term, however, we need to have forward planning and, like in the case of Ridvan Yilmaz, having a senior player in situ for the same position would give him time to bed in.

A busy summer could be about to get busier and see some serious money spent for the first time since the days of Dick Advocaat, it’s certainly building up to be an exciting last week of the transfer window for Rangers fans.
