It wouldn’t be the first time that a reporter has claimed that we aren’t interested in a player only for them to turn up at Ibrox holding a scarf above their head.

The Rangers Review’s Derek Clark has claimed that he has been “reliably informed” that we are not interested in Steau Bucharest’s Darius Olaru, this is despite the Romanian outfit’s owner dropping our name into a list of potential suitors, as reported by PRO Sport:

“Who wants to give this money (£5m)? Rangers?

“I am not discussing Olaru now. An offer may also come today from Real Madrid, from Barcelona and offer me anything. I don’t argue. Olaru is not for sale now.

“From Friday we resume the discussions, let’s see how we will be then. But for now, no one is leaving, no one is coming.

“Let us get into groups and then we will discuss differently. Maybe a player will leave, but I will certainly bring reinforcements so that we can face it on all levels.”

Gigi Becali is well known for enjoying the spotlight and I would suggest that the Spanish giants have been thrown in purely for the sake of it rather than because they are specifically interested in the 24-year old international.

Olaru is certainly a player that a lot of fans would be happy to see coming to the club though seeing as his natural position is that of a number eight, a genuine box-to-box midfielder rather than a square peg in a round hole, however, as we’ve seen from Tom Lawrence’s recent displays that need may be subsiding.
