You would think that given our exit from the Champions League that Steven Gerrard will have to sell his entire first-team squad and replace them with the academy players, when you look at the reaction of some in the Scottish press.

However, this is far from the case, as already reported by Vital Rangers, and in fact, we are still looking to strengthen as confirmed by assistant manager, Gary McAllister, after the league cup victory over Dunfermline.

Despite missing out on a huge windfall, Gerrard’s number two said that improvements will always be sought after by the Ibrox club, as reported by the Glasgow Times:

“We are continually looking and we are going down avenues all the time and if something can come off prior to the window closing, then great.

“We are still looking to get better players here.”

Music to the ears of Gers fans, but nothing that we didn’t really know already. We are blessed to be in the position of having directors who will continue to back the gaffer and support the club until we are able to fully stand on our own two feet, we aren’t there yet – especially after Covid-19 hit hard in the last 18 months – but we are on the right road.

With our own talent like Stephen Kelly and Nathan Patterson being promoted from the academy and Calvin Bassey being identified when he was at Leicester City, there are signs that we have a long-term succession plan in place, we just need to start making money off players now, over to you Mr Wilson.
