Ross Wilson has been able to keep a pretty tight ship when it comes to transfer rumours since he arrived at Ibrox but when Marijan Cabraja revealed that Rangers were after him, there was little he could do about it.

The Croatian Under-21 left back has since turned down the opportunity to move to MLS with his club’s sporting director making public the news this week, as reported by Glasgow Live:

“It is normal to receive offers for our players.

“Marijan Cabraja has just turned down the chance to sign for Austin FC in the USA and we have had offers for three other players too from various clubs.”

Cabraja is obviously seen as a potential replacement for Borna Barisic and the player himself hinted at any move being dependent on the future of the in-demand Rangers star:

“It is true that Rangers are following me, contact has been established but it all depends on how the situation with Borna Barisic develops.”

The Gordica defender would demand a fee as he is under contract for a couple of years yet and the six-figure valuation on transfermarkt is somewhat conservative for player playing age group international football for one of the best sides in world.

Who would you replace Barisic with long-term?

Rangers currently have Calvin Bassey covering for Barisic and – St Mirren disaster aside – he has done well so far in what have been his first senior professional appearances, there are also plans to shift Glenn Middleton from a more attacking position and James Maxwell is impressing on loan at Queen of the South but they are not quite read to fill a proven international’s shoes.

Cabraja though is the sort of signing that would fit our transfer model of buying players with the potential to be sold on at a significant profit and whether we like it or not, a Croatian automatically would sell for more than a Scot, can’t think why though given our recent intentional record….
