Much of the talk surrounding the Rangers squad this summer hasn’t been about potential new faces but which of the current squad will still be at the club when pre-season training kicks off.

Calvin Bassey is attracting interest, as is Borna Barisic, however, there are still the contracts of Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo that need to be sorted out, if not, now is the time to sell before their values plummet.

Speaking to Glasgow Live, former Gers midfielder, Charlie Miller, believes that there could be a mini-exodus and hopes that Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be backed in the same way as his predecessor:

“I think Calvin Bassey will be away with a £25 or £30 million bid.

“There might be three or four others who could go. Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo, Allan McGregor. It’s a bit of a rebuilding job for Giovanni.

“But with the wages they recoup and transfer fees they get for these players, it should give him a hefty budget, especially after the European run.

“The board have backed Steven Gerrard over the last couple of years so hopefully they can back Giovanni. Hopefully he gets his signings right.”

I still don’t agree with the narrative that there will be a lot of key players leaving this summer, there will be plenty of speculation but, out of the players with just one year left to go on their contracts I think all of them will extend except for maybe Joe Aribo who I think will be sold.

It’s a different situation to that of Bassey where, if any bids come in anywhere near our £25m valuation, we would be stupid to turn them down because it would allow us to strengthen elsewhere and we already have cover in his position, either way, I hope Miller is right and Gio gets the money that he deserves to add his own players.
