Player of the year awards continue to get dished around the Rangers squad, with the latest recipient of PFA Scotland’s version being tipped to be a target for Premier League sides in England.

James Tavernier has been incredible this season, only injury preventing him from getting 20 goals and 20 assists – I’m legally obliged to remind you that he is a right-back.

The skipper has earned praise up and down the country for the way that he has lead his team to success contributing at both ends of the park with the latest being his manager’s former England team-mate, Paul Robinson, as reported by Football Insider:

“That’s an incredible return from right back.

“He’s like Trent Alexander-Arnold going forward, what Tavernier has done is incredible.

“The whole Rangers team have had an incredible season. But for player of the season, he was a shoo-in for that.

“He’s got defensive capabilities as well as his attacking capabilities, he’s a top player.

“There will be a lot of Premier League clubs looking at him, and trying to sign him, but there’s a huge draw to being at Rangers at the moment.”

There was a time when some Rangers fans would’ve taken a couple of million to see the back of Tavernier, his value now would need at least a zero on the end of that sum and that’s taking into consideration his advancing years. You will struggle to find a forward capable of producing the same output.

Robinson is right, there will undoubtedly be Premier League sides who have the captain on a list of potential targets but, as Steven Gerrard said, they’ll need to “bring an army” if they have serious thoughts of prising him away.
