It’s a strange time to be a Rangers fan, but in a good way.

There is no massive overhaul needed, no huge amount of investment required to see us challenge for the title, in fact, we could probably do nothing and still have the strongest squad in the country.

Steven Gerrard has spoken about “fixing the roof whilst the sun shines” and there is a lot to be positive about in this statement, it’s fine tuning, subtle upgrades, that are needed, there will be no deadline day panic buys or scrambling around to get loan deals through the door to fill gaps.

What we will be looking to do is future proof ourselves, we’ve already seen since January with the arrivals of Scott Wright, Jack Simpson, Nnamdi Ofoborh and Fashion Sakala that when the right players are available, they will be pursued, even if there isn’t an immediate place in the starting XI for them.

It is also how our transfer strategy should work, pick players up on pre-contracts or free transfers – if they successfully pass the scrutiny of the analysts and scouts – if they don’t work out, it isn’t a big loss, however, as we’ve seen with Joe Aribo and Glen Kamara, when they do, they can make the club millions in potential profit.

Who finished as Rangers top goal scorer this season?

Any big outlay this summer will be for players to improve the first-team and, probably, to replace any that leave. We’ve seen the likes of Danilho Doekhi, Joseph Okumu, Jonson Clarke-Harris, Joey Veerman and Santiago Montero all linked with the club already and it will be fascinating to see how we go about replacing key players, if and when it happens.

Sit back, enjoy the rumours and fear not, the last few windows show that we have nothing to worry about.
