Beale makes transfer revelation, good and bad news for fans

The transfer window has just a couple of days to run and, for all that Todd Cantwell looked impressive against St Johnstone, so getting only one new player in the door would be hugely frustrating. Not only for the support but also for Michael Beale, regardless of what he says.

Speaking after the game, the Gers gaffer was as candid as he has been since replacing Giovanni van Bronckhorst and gave a hint as to what we might see over the closing hours, as reported by The Rangers Review:

“I would like us to add a midfielder to the squad that’s powerful and can run. I would like to have another centre-half and we will be looking at the goalkeeper situation in the summer. We will be looking for another number nine.

“Are we going to get all that done in the next 48 hours? There’s more time in the summer. It’s got to be the right players but nobody wants to strengthen this squad more than Ross, the board and myself. It’s in our interest to build a stronger Rangers than we have right now.”

Nicolas Raskin is the obvious midfielder that he is referring to, talks seem to be heading in the right direction and it would be more of a surprise if we don’t get him through the door – Ryan Jack and John Lundstram continuing to show that they aren’t natural number sixes.

As for the central defender, Beale contradicts his positivity towards Filip Helander considering that we already have three senior players available as well as Leon King and James Sands. The name that has re-emerged recently has been that of Jake Cooper, a target under Steven Gerrard before we signed Connor Goldson and, ironically, before we signed Helander. The towering Milwall defender is available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

I would have loved to have seen us bring in a goalkeeper and a striker in this window but it doesn’t look like that is going to happen now, at least we have something to look forward to in the summer and we have no excuses about not getting players in early.

Unfortunately, Beale has just told everyone what we are looking for though!
