Rangers “not resting on laurels” after latest signing news

|

You just know that because of the way that Steven Gerrard operates, as soon as the Scottish Premiership title was confirmed last season, plans to make a successful defence well already well underway.

Rangers have recruited well so far despite it being early doors in the transfer window and, speaking to Football Insider, former Premier League striker, Kevin Campbell, feels that it is a sign that the Gers gaffer won’t be messing about next season:

“Rangers are not resting on their laurels because Steven Gerrard knows that if the club stands still others will go past them. It makes it even more difficult to kick on and push forward.

“It is vital to have a proactive mindset and that is what Steven Gerrard and his staff have. They are going to try and put daylight between themselves and Celtic. That is what they so badly want.

“They want back-to-back titles and at least one cup next season. I’m sure they will all want to do well in the Champions League as well and to do that they need strength in depth. It is going to be a really interesting season in Scotland.”

Campbell is right, Rangers won the league at a canter, going unbeaten in the process and yet it still wasn’t enough. Gerrard will be looking for an even greater level of dominance and to right the wrongs of his cup record since taking over at Ibrox.

It is always easier to build from a position of strength and that’s where we are just now, and by getting Fashion Sakala and John Lundstram in on Bosman deals there should be wriggle room in the budget to add real quality to the first-team. With automatic group stage football on the table for the winner of the league this season, you could argue that it is even more important than last year to come out on top.
