Rangers hunt for a new striker might be coming to a conclusion, however, this hasn’t stopped us from being linked with others, one such player being Stephen Odey of Danish outfit Randers.

The 24-year old Nigerian was in decent form last season which persuaded Randers to take up the option to buy that they had on his loan deal from Genk, coincidentally, where he was a team-mate of our own Ianis Hagi, it’s believed that they are now looking to make a sizeable profit if they complete a quick sale.

Speaking to Amstavis, a Danis media outlet, Odey was far from dismissive when asked about the speculation linking him with a move to not only Rangers but Old Firm rivals Celtic:

“These are big clubs, and it is clear that this is something that I want to be open to. But I’m in Randers FC, and right now that’s the only thing that matters. As long as I have not been presented with anything concrete, as I said, I will not let myself be disturbed by it.

“Rumours can spread quickly, but it’s not something I want to be distracted by. My agent takes care of everything that may be around the transfer market. I’m not trying to think about it. The important thing for me as a player is to focus on the preparations for the new season.

“If the right club comes, Randers FC has no choice but to let me go. But I am happy to be in Randers FC, and that does not change the fact that there are some rumours about other clubs.”

Given that Rangers would probably have to part with around £2-3million, I’m not entirely sure that Odey is an option unless there are departures now that it looks as though Colak is on his way in.

Extra firepower certainly appears to be near the top of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s shopping list and, despite being open to a move, I can’t see the Nigerian heading to Rangers any time soon.
