Ryan Porteous to Rangers is certainly a rumour that has sparked debate amongst fans, opinions about his ability range from no better than what we have to that he would be immediately starting alongside Connor Goldson – there is a reason he is such a polarising figure.

On paper, and at his best, he would be a good signing. His recent display for Scotland against Ukraine highlights his potential when he is fully focussed, however, it is impossible to separate what he is capable of from his, well publicised, moments of madness, both on and off the pitch.

I can understand – UEFA quota, value, potential, experience – why Ross Wilson would entertain a move, however, there are too many red flags to suggest that the story has any foundation with The 4th Official confirming where they think it originates from:

“For the sake of transparency, let me confirm that this news was passed on to me last week by a source close to several agencies. While I trust him, he can only relay what he was hearing, nothing more.

“I checked with my close source inside Rangers, and he confirmed that nothing of such has been talked about by Rangers although to be fair they were busy with the AGM. He added that this seems more driven by Porteous’s side.”

With Celtic having been linked in the past, this one reeks of an Old Firm transfer tug-of-war that the papers – and agents – love to start, however, in this instance, I don’t think that either party are interested and Porteous will end up moving to English football.

If you thought fans weren’t happy when Kenny Miller came back after a spell playing for the dark side, imagine how they would react to this one!
