Rangers look to have finally kicked into gear for the January transfer window with preparations being made to see targets acquired and signed to make an immediate impact.

The first name to emerge with a, reported, concrete interest is one that Vital Rangers covered this week in an “exclusive” report by Football Scotland claiming that we have made contact in the pursuit of a midfield playmaker. Ahmed Kendouci of ES Setif said to be at the centre of transfer talks for an imminent move:

“The 23-year-old would be allowed to leave in the January window but Rangers want to bring Kendouci to Ibrox on an initial loan deal before turning it into a permanent move if he impresses.

“That’s not something ES Setif want and the Algerian side would rather sell him permanently if they can find the right deal, but conversations between the two clubs are still at a very early stage.”

This is the sort of deal that Ross Wilson has negotiated before for Ianis Hagi, James Sands and Malik Tillman, one that sees us given time to assess the player at close quarters before deciding whether or not to make the move a permanent one. It works well for us but it’s easy to see why the player’s club might not be interested seeing as the contract would be winding down as well as their potential value whilst they are out on loan, especially if it doesn’t go to plan.

Kendouci is said to be available for a “low seven-figure sum” so it’s not as if he would cost a fortune should a loan deal be out of the question. Right then Mr Wilson, time to prove the doubters wrong and find us a gem or two, starting with this one.
