New Gers recruit a “good addition”

Tom Lawrence was a player that I hoped Rangers were in for long before a deal had been announced, he was never going to be staying at Derby County and felt that he had the versatility that Giovanni van Bronckhorst looks for in a player plus, he is capable of adding numbers from midfield.

With three goals and one assist in his nine appearances so far, it’s safe to say that he has adapted well backed up by another outstanding display against Ross County where he appeared to be involved in everything and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet again.

Writing on his Twitter feed, The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell has been impressed with the Welshman’s productivity and surprised at what he has offered since singing for Rangers:

“Hadn’t seen Lawrence much before Rangers, but was skeptical given he had mostly played at Champ level & had a reputation for shooting from daft places. But the last 4/5 games he has been really strong. More technical and mobile than expected. Looks more than a good addition.”

So far, we’ve seen Lawrence play on the left, on the right, as a number eight, at number ten and for the last 10 minutes against Ross County as a false number nine, and each time he has shown an ability to link play and attack the box that should see him continue to produce decent figures.

He’s the perfect player for domestic games against more defensive teams given that he isn’t shy of doing the hard yards alongside John Lundstram as well as linking midfield to attack, he’s starting to form some strong relationships with Ryan Kent, Malik Tillman and James Tavernier which will only bode well for the future – the only annoying thing is that we didn’t sign him sooner.
