It wouldn’t be a transfer window if Rangers weren’t linked with Billy Gilmour now would it?

The former academy graduate seemed to be destined for the top when he collected a string of man of the match awards making his competition debuts for Chelsea and Scotland, however, an untimely injury and Frank Lampard’s departure saw his time at Stamford Bridge come to a premature end.

A move to Brighton to resurrect his fledgling career looked like a sensible one until his new gaffer upped sticks and moved in the opposite direction. Since moving to the south coast he has found playing time equally as limited.

Writing on his Twitter page, former BBC football journalist Fraser Fletcher reflected on the news that Gilmour might be looking for a temporary exit from Brighton, however, this wasn’t the only information that he gave up:

“Any links to Billy Gilmour return to Rangers in the past were false. No doubt the talk of loan away in January will now begin that transfer talk again,

“Not unlikely as a few people within the game have told me they foresee a busy January at club, However personally don’t see it.”

Rangers do need to strengthen both for the short and long term so it wound;t be a surprise if we see new bodies arriving in January in preparation for the exodus that will inevitably follow next summer.

It is now a clear period of transition for the squad and management of the club and there is no better time to put plans into place for the future, never has it been more important to make the right calls both on and off the pitch.
