Rangers “pursuit” of Billy Gilmour could be over before it has started with a report from Sky Sports’ Jim White claiming that Chelsea have no intentions of letting the Scotland youth cap go.

The Glasgow Times picked up the presenter’s Twitter post claiming to have the inside information on the “deal”:

“I understand @ChelseaFC have no plans to loan rising star Billy Gilmour to @RangersFC or anyone else right now – he’s a big part of the plans at the London club.”

Sky Sports used to be the most reliable of sources when it came to transfers, once they were reporting it, it was a certainty, however, they have lost pace in the ever growing world of social media with Rangers in particular announcing deals without the media giants getting so much as a sniff of a deal.

Who scored Rangers first competitive goal of the season?

A move for former academy kid Gilmour would be a fantastic piece of business and one that could suit all parties if it was to come off, however, there may be some truth in White’s comments given how vocal Frank Lampard was in his praise of his midfielder following his man of the match performances in the Champions League last night:

“I thought Billy was outstanding on his return, I felt very comfortable with him coming back in, he’s trained so well, done his rehab and he deserved his chance tonight.

“So I expect to see more of the same from Billy as he gets stronger now he is past his injury.”

Mark the rumour up as one to keep an eye on as much could depend on whether or not Chelsea add any players in the January transfer window, as we saw with Ryan Kent, there’s always a chance.
