Rangers fans have had a lot to be happy about recently and on top of the performances on the pitch, speculation linking the club with new signings has only added to the festive cheer.

Glasgow Live has given cause for even greater celebration with the news that Kai Kennedy is now hoping to extend his contract with the Light Blues when it looked, just a few months ago, that his future lay elsewhere.

A loan move to Inverness Caledonian Thistle has seen him realise that there is a pathway to first-team football and that he is in the right place to continue his development, however, it has been his manager in the Highlands, John Robertson, that has made the latest revelation about his contract talks in an interview with the Press and Journal:

“It will be reviewed in January. At the end of the day, he is Rangers’ player.

“From their aspect, they understand how big a talent he is. He was in their squad at the start of the season.

“There are contractual issues between them but I think that’s going to be resolved, I think it’s going in the right direction for Rangers and for Kai.

“If he continues to play as he has done in recent weeks, the problem we may have is that Rangers may want him for their first team.”

Robertson is hopeful of Kennedy having his loan extended, but with Jordan Jones hardly flavour of the month and the form of the Scotland youth cap, it may be that Steven Gerrard decides to bring him back into the fold.

Who scored Rangers first competitive goal of the season?

The extra substitutes allowed per game this season would give the Gers gaffer a great opportunity to gradually introduce Kennedy into his side to see if he can make an impact, fingers will be crossed by those of a Light Blue persuasion that his future is secured so that we don’t see a repeat of the deal that saw Billy Gilmour head south to make a name for himself, whatever happened to him I wonder?
