Rangers fans will be hoping that when Billy Gilmour departed the club as a precocious 15-year old that a sell on clause was inserted into the deal that saw Chelsea pay £500,000 for his services given recent reports.

Football Insider claims that Gilmour is already valued at over £60million by the London based club despite playing just a handful of games in the first-team for Frank Lampard.

The Scotland Under-21 international has earned rave reviews since making his debut and been named man of the match on more than one occasion, Roy Keane is a known admirer as is David Moyes, who said, if Chelsea made a move for his own player, Declan Rice, that he would want the youngster in exchange.

Gilmour had already been involved with the Rangers first-team in training during Pedro Caixinha’s disastrous spell in charge and the Portuguese manager even made attempts to persuade the youngster to stay with his own personal intervention.

Rangers have failed to maximise player sales for the best part of a decade now and after receiving a fee for Eros Grezda, Ross Wilson has been branded as a miracle worker, however, his arrival came too late to benefit in Gilmour’s case.

Gers fans may cast an envious eye this summer if, as rumoured, Moussa Dembele leaves Lyon with Celtic said to receive 10% of any potential fee that is made, it would be a considerable windfall in a time when money is tight.

The current board at Ibrox have been essential to the club re-building both on and off the pitch and with Wilson in the role of Sporting Director, there is finally an individual that will make the most out of deals such as the one that saw Gilmour go on to become one of the highest rated youngsters in the country.
